Rules for OU Greensomes Competition
Each person that enters the competition is expected to be available to play on at least 8 dates during the 5/6 weeks allocated to complete the round. These should include a selection of both weekend and midweek dates.
Playing a match
- The format is doubles matchplay, in which all players drive. There is no maximum number of drives per person; player A's drive can be chosen on every hole. The ball is then played alternately until holed out (gimmes are allowed!), starting with the player whose drive was not chosen.
- Venues by mutual agreement of each pairing. Any green fees are split between the four players so it is customary to choose a venue which is cost effective in terms of club members, but it is up to you to agree where you want to play.
- Agree before starting what you will do if the match is tied after 18 holes.
- Ladies will play off the Ladies Tees. NB if you are a 'mixed' pair then the lady will receive equalising shots, i.e. the difference between the yellow and red SSS at whichever course you play the match. The equalising shots should be added to the lady's handicap before doing the Greensomes calculation. If help is needed with the calculations, please contact the organiser.
- The Handicap difference is worked out by adding together each pair's current OUGS handicap to get a team handicap (NB: as for normal OUGS competition, if your club handicap is lower you must use this). Then take one team's handicap from the other. 3/8th of the difference is the number of shots allowed to the team with the highest handicap.
Please be pro-active in making contact with your opponents and don't wait 'til half-way through the play-by period. There are at least 6 weeks between each deadline. Please inform the organiser of the result as soon as possible after completion of the game.
