Congratulations to all our entrants to Championship Day at Whittlebury Park GC. We had new names on the trophies and some excellent scores.
The weather was kind of- warm but not heat stroke inducing this year. Those who played 36 holes saw all three loops of 9. The rule on using buggies was welcomed by many who having had long morning rounds and very little time to grab lunch, appreciated the chance to sit down!
The course was in good condition with lush greens drying out for the afternoon.
We had our usual prizes for 2x NTP and longest drive won by Brian Bamber, Ian Whitely and Calum McMullen respectively.
Our Champion golfer and winner of the John Boulton Rosebowl was Digory Little with a scratch score over 36 holes of 165. The runner-up to Digs was Charlie Snelling.
Gary Oliver won the Newbould Plate with 73 points and was closely followed by Keith Marley. Gavin Hamilton won the Massey Cup with Jim Moffatt runner up.
The Walton Cup was won by Sue Holwell and the runner-up was Brian Bamber.
It would be remiss of me to fail to mention how much work went into the smooth running of the day - much of that was due to the extensive preparation that goes into liaising with the venue, sorting the draw and shuffling the buggies this year, not to mention collating the scores and retrieving the trophies and prizes. Your Committee works hard throughout the season and I thank them wholeheartedly for it.
Our next outing is to Woburn on 15 August. Estimated costs will be forthcoming shortly and we hope that all who want play will have the chance. The Jessica Magill trophy for which we play has been very popular and last year we had a waiting list. Please do respond as quickly as possible and bear in mind that if we have more demand than places, there will be a waiting list. Places will be confirmed on the basis that first refusal goes to those who contribute to the running and support of the Society - i.e. run the day, and those who help to recruit members, our funding, and support the social aspect by their regular participation in golf and social events. After that it is first come first served. Only if there are places remaining can we offer guests a spot - we are constrained somewhat by the number of subsidised places we can offer.
Once again well done to our winners but a big thanks to all those who competed.
Lastly please keep your ideas and memories for the 50 year celebration coming. Nobel prize ideas also welcome!
