What a splendid time we had at Stocks! The course was in magnificent shape, the welcome and the weather were warm, and the staff couldn't have been more obliging. And the golf proved to be very good too.
We were playing for laughs, bragging rights and a new trophy! The first name on our 50th anniversary trophy is… Denzil de Souza, with an excellent 37 points, winning on countback from Gary Elliott Cirigottis. The prize for the longest drive went to David Shepherd, and the nearest the pins were won by Howard (legend) and our guest for the day, the lovely Sharon, whose idea of trying Stocks proved a winner.
Many photos have been shared on the WhatsApp group. The happy smiling faces, smart attire, usual banter, dressing up, sunshine and daisies, with a great turnout, made it truly a day to remember.
Thanks to our Committee members who organised, bid for money to run the event and sorted out the prizes. It takes a bit of work in the background, and your gratitude and help on the day to keep things moving are appreciated.
Looking Ahead
Our next event is Championship Day on 24th July at Whipsnade. It would be great to have the same turnout for this one, and your early confirmation will make for easier organising — it gets tricky to manage, so please respond in good time.
I wish everyone good luck in the greensomes — please do check the rules and how to calculate shots before the match, so you are agreed on these and are ready to play.
Lastly, for those who are headed to Warwick for the weekend away, don't do anything I wouldn't do (which leaves plenty of scope for most people, frankly). Please let me know if anyone wants to borrow my ears, bow tie or tail.
