The forecast looked promising as everyone gathered for bacon rolls before heading out onto the green fairways. Thanks to Dave and Avril for inviting us to their home course: by the end of the day, the general feeling was that we should return.

Despite the drought, the course was in fine condition, with particularly good greens. Strong winds made it a tough challenge, though several players rose to it. Gavin won nearest the pin, while Jim claimed nearest in two. Dave Gibson took second place with an excellent 35 points, but Dave Tarry stole the show with 40 points. That home advantage may cost him dearly next time!

Of course, the main event was Denzil’s birthday. Ham, eggs and chips went down well after the round, followed by birthday cake. Happy birthday, Denzil, and thank you to the star who organised the cake!
