Many thanks to Andy, Jill and all those who assisted in various ways to make our 2023 Championship Day such a roaring success.  We stuck with the 36 hole event this year for those who wanted to play it and although we missed some of the strongest advocates for it, nonetheless we had a good competition and a worthy winner.

Aylesbury Vale was an excellent venue for the event - the course being in good nick, the greens being very true and sone of the holes proving a real challenge for those of us playing the course for the first time or after a long gap.  The clubhouse made us very welcome and in particular a special effort was made to provide a lovely meal in a convivial setting.  The weather was kind to us remaining dry but not too warm.  What else could we wish for?

As usual we had a nice spread of winners all captured this year thanks to Dave Gibson’s spreadsheet.  Thanks again to Dave for providing additional prizes.  This helped ease the calculations considerably once the rather complicated local rules were applied.  This year we awarded:

The John Boulton Rosebowl for the Cat 1 player with the lowest scratch score over 36 holes to Jim Moffatt, the runner up being Denzil. Jim proved to be accurate helping to stay on the fairways and pick up nearest the pin. Keeping it in the family Jill Moffatt won ntp in two!  Great to see Jill amongst the prizes again.

The Newbould Plate was awarded to newcomer Diggory Little who also scooped the longest drive. Runner up to Digs was Tim Delaney.

Phil Thomas won the Massey Cup after a terrific morning round with Andy Thomas pressing home course advantage to finish as runner up.  It would have been fun if Pete Thomas had been third but…

The Associate Cup was won by  Gary Oliver narrowly beating runner up Dave Gibson.

The inaugural winner of The Walton Cup was Brian Bamber coming fresh from a training camp at Greetham where he'd prepared (well certainly for the after round drinks I am sure). And continuing his good form from Welwyn, I am delighted to say Mani was a close second.

Very well done to all those who made up the field and those who prevailed!  Jill has circulated details for Woburn and so I hope to see you there and then.  Best wishes, and thanks again for all your support,  your Chair (Liz).
